God’s word gives us a very specific promise for us in our times of grief:
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 (NIV)
Grief, I have learned, is a creature all of its own. It comes and goes, like a wave on the shore. At times it is relentlessly present, hitting hard and knocking us down. Other times it gently laps up on the sand and quickly retreats only to lap up again quietly reminding us of our loss.
Shortly after the sudden and unexpected loss of my mom, I was walking through Hobby Lobby. Heading down the aisles of wall decor, I was overcome with God’s promises speaking to me from the wall decor displayed. The words based on scripture covered me like a warm blanket:
God is still good.
God is with you; you will not fall.
She trusts in the Lord with all her heart.
Only in God is my soul at rest; He alone is my hope.
When you go through deep waters, I wil be with you.
Emotion overcame me, and there I was weeping in the aisles of the store; not weeping from complete saddness, but weeping with the reminder of the promise that God was with me no matter what. He didn’t expect me to walk this path alone and without hope, but he was walking the path before me and beside me, even carrying me through grief’s deep waters and serving as my anchor to keep me firmly in His presence.
This experience in Hobby Lobby stirred in me a longing. I longed to dig deeper into the Word to explore the many promises God has for us. I figured that if that one short moment in Hobby Lobby blessed me that much, what blessings would a month long journey into God’s promises in the Word bring? What I found blessed me.
And so Journey through the Promises of God: 30 Day Scripture Writing Journal, born out of loss, is poured out as my love offering back to my Comforter. This book is filled with some of those promises that I found on my journey of digging into the Word, and my hope is that it blesses you as well.
Perfect for your morning devotional time, this journal offers one verse each day highlighting a promise of God. You have space to write the verse, do some scripture mapping, add drawings, journal your reflections, and write a prayer for the day. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there is a season for everything under the sun. We will experience many seasons of life. If we search God’s word, we find that God offers promises for us in every season: grief, weeping, joy, struggle, waiting, sowing, reaping, and more.
For every season, God has offered promises. I want to encourage you to study those promises! This study blessed me, and I pray it blesses you.
May the promises selected and included in this journal cover you like a warm blanket now during the these 30 days and later as you return to review it, no matter the season of life you are walking.
