Easter Devotional Series: The Words of Jesus
Welcome and thank you for joining me for this special three-part Easter devotional series.
I am grateful you’re taking the time during this holy season to pause and reflect as we explore some of the words of Jesus.
Today, we turn our attention to Maundy Thursday, a significant moment in the Easter story. Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a final meal with his beloved disciples before his crucifixion.
In the Gospel of Luke, we find Jesus and his beloved disciplines in the upper room. Jesus took the bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it. He said, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ Then after supper, Jesus took the cup, presented it to his disciples, and said ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’
These words spoken by Jesus during the Last Supper hold profound significance. As Jesus broke the bread and shared the cup with his disciples, he was foreshadowing the sacrifice he would soon make on the cross. The bread symbolized his body, which would be broken for us, and the cup symbolized his blood, which would be poured out for the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus knew what lay ahead of him—the suffering, the pain, and the ultimate sacrifice. Yet, in the midst of it all, he chose to share a quiet intimate moment with his disciples, introducing the sacrament of communion, and inviting us to the table in remembrance of him.
As we reflect on Jesus’ words from the Last Supper, let us remember the depth of his love for us. He willingly offered himself as a sacrifice for our sins so that we might have eternal life. This Maundy Thursday, let us partake in communion with hearts full of gratitude, remembering the One who gave everything for us.

Thank you, Lynn. I’m traveling today.
In the business of this, I appreciate this devotional to remind me, ground me, and keep me focused on holy week. Maundy Thursday is a somber time, reflecting on knowing Jesus knew what was ahead of him and he was still able exrcute that. Additionally, he took time with his disciples. I appreciate the last supper and how it provides us with the knowledge and understanding of communion.
Praise his Holy Name!
So glad to hear this blessed you as you travel this week, Sharla! Thanks so much for sharing. Hope to see you Easter Sunday! Love to you.
